Dr. Robert J. Sternberg
Dr. Robert J. Sternberg is Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences and Professor of Psychology at Tufts University. Prior to accepting this position, he was IBM Professor of Psychology and Education in the Department of Psychology, Professor of Management in the School of Management, and Director of the Center for the Psychology of Abilities, Competencies, and Expertise at Yale. This Center, soon to be relocated to Tufts, is dedicated to the advancement of theory, research, practice, and policy advancing the notion of intelligence as developing expertise—as a construct that is modifiable and capable, to some extent, of development throughout the life span. The Center seeks to have an impact on science, on education, and on society. Sternberg also was the 2003 President of the American Psychological Association and is the 2005-2006 President-Elect of the Eastern Psychological Association. He was on the Board of Directors of the American Psychological Association (2002-2004) and of the Board of Trustees of the APA Insurance Trust (2004). He is currently on the Board of Trustees of the American Psychological Foundation (2005-2009) and on the Board of Directors of the Eastern Psychological Association (2005-2008). Sternberg has also been president of the Divisions of General Psychology (1), Educational Psychology (15), Psychology and the Arts (20), and Theoretical and Philosophical Psychology (24) of the APA. Dr. Curtis Bonk
Dr. Curtis Bonk is a former corporate controller and CPA, who, after becoming sufficiently bored with that, received his master’s and Ph.D. degrees in educational psychology from the University of Wisconsin. He is now Professor of Instructional Systems Technology and adjunct in the School of Informatics at Indiana University (IU). Dr. Bonk is also a Senior Research Fellow with the Advanced Distributed Learning Lab within the Department of Defense. He has received numerous teaching and mentoring awards from IU as well as the CyberStar Award from the Indiana Information Technology Association, the Most Outstanding Achievement Award from the U.S. Distance Learning Association, and the Most Innovative Teaching in a Distance Education Program Award from the State of Indiana. During the past two years, Dr. Bonk has presented nearly 200 talks around the globe related to online teaching and learning, including ones at universities in China, Taiwan, Thailand, Korea, Finland, Ireland, Singapore, Spain, Iceland, the UK, and the United Arab Emirates. Curt has more than 150 publications on topics such as online learning pedagogy, massive multiplayer online gaming, collaborative technologies, synchronous and asynchronous computer conferencing, and frameworks for Web-based instruction and evaluation. His highly popular “Handbook of Blended Learning Environments: Global Perspectives, Local Designs,” was published by Pfeiffer Publishing in 2006. Dr. Caroline Baillie
Caroline is the Dupont Canada Chair of Engineering Education Research and Development at Queens University, Kingston, Ontario. She is cross appointed into Chemical Engineering, Sociology and Women’s studies. Her role is to enhance the learning experience of engineering students across the Faculty whilst maintaining her research and teaching interests in education, materials science and engineering. She is particularly interested in ways in which science and engineering can help to create solutions for the environment as well as social problems. She hosts the ‘Engineering and Social Justice’ network with George Catalano. She has over 100 publications, papers and books in materials science and education. Her most recent books include a Woodhead publication, “Green Composites’, a Routledge publication ‘Effective learning and teaching in engineering’ and an edited Campus volume ‘Travelling facts: the social construction, distribution and accumulation of knowledge’.
